Farming

Argentina is an agricultural country and an important producer and exporter of commodities and manufactures. Its ecological diversity allows a great amount and variety of productions.

The Pampas, a vast region of fertile land, is the Argentina’s agricultural heartland. This eco-region consists of plains, many rivers and lagoons. The climatic conditions, combined with the geochemical characteristics of the sedimentary materials and the vegetative cycles of the pasture like grasslands, have favoured the development of soils with high organic and nutrient content. These characteristics make the soil excellent for vegetative growth and cattle breeding.

Argentina is one of the main producers of grains in the world. A commercial advantage for the country is that crops are harvested at seasons opposed to those of the Northern Hemisphere.

Beef, whose quality is famous, is produced by cattle fattened extensively on pasture. Continuous checking of bovine spongiform encephalopathy and scrapie in sheep has shown the absence of both diseases.
